We all agree: Our Candidates are Changing the Face of Congress

Our feminist friends at Jezebel just asked if four of our women candidates could change the face of Congress -- and the answer, of course, is a resounding “YES!”

EMILY’s List candidates Tulsi Gabbard, Grace Meng, Kelda Roys and Kyrsten Sinema were all featured as the fresh faces that Congress needs -- all 36 years old or younger.

Jezebel reminded us all that, while we were finishing up our undergrad and struggling to pay rent at 21 years old, Tulsi Gabbard was busy serving as the youngest-ever elected female state legislator in American history -- and she hasn’t stopped moving up the political ladder.  After two tours of duty in Iraq, she’s running for Congress in Hawaii’s 2nd district at the ripe old age of 31. This rising star is pro-choice, pro-small business and pro-banking reform.

Meanwhile, if Grace Meng is elected to New York’s District 6 Congressional seat, she’ll be the first Asian American to represent New York in Congress .  She’s already fighting the war on women from the New York State Assembly.  And of course, as Jezebel said, she’s stood up to Rush Limbaugh -- which means she’s ready to take on his pals in Congress.

Kelda Roys was also praised for her unadulterated awesomeness.  Jezebel writes, “At 33, [Roys] is running on an unapologetically pro-choice platform and as an ‘expert on women’s health policy.’ About time – the knuckleheads currently writing regulations on the female body can’t even bring themselves to say ‘vagina.’”  Kelda is an alum of the EMILY’s List Political Opportunity Program  and is running for Congress in Wisconsin’s 2nd district.

And last, but certainly not least, Jezebel applauded Kyrsten Sinema for her tireless work to protect civil rights. As Jezebel said, “she’s been a four-term bastion of sanity in Arizona’s perpetual whirlwind of WTF,”  standing up for choice and the rights of veterans in the face of Governor Jan Brewer’s far right agenda.

Thanks, Jezebel, for this awesome coverage of four of our amazing candidates. We’re sure there will be more of it to come, as our women continue to make history and shake up the political playing field.

Make sure these rising stars have what they need to start changing the face of Congress. Contribute to Tulsi, Grace, Kelda, and Kyrsten today!

Candidates Changing the Face of Congress

All four of these women have very impressive credentials! And are more along the line of how I think and feel about the direction I would like our country to move forward in the days and years to come.

Green Party

I'm still wondering why Emily's List continues to be silent on the two potential Green Party candidates for president - Jill Stein and Roseanne Barr.

Hope!

Seeing these young, fresh and yet able and determined young women, I got an instant infusion of hope. Suddenly, the old politics of hate and degradation, of lies and innuendo, of being bought-out, sold-out and soon to be edged-out seems to heavy laden to keep rowing their old boats around the US Congress. And the state congresses as well. Sad as it is that there are so many young people given over to lives of drugs and poverty, lack of education and seemingly endless challenges, there are also these wonderful, life-filled people who will do more than has ever been done for their fellow beings and their earth. Thank you for sharing this "brag." It sure lifted my spirits. As a political operative in a battleground state in 2012, this was a happy shot in the arm. Thanks again! Kathleen

Great reading about these up

Great reading about these up and coming young women. Hopefully they will be able to bring about needed changes with their energy and passion! Loved the comment about the knuckleheads who can't bring themselves to use the word vagina.
