Cheryle Robinson Jackson is on the road. The Illinois Senate candidate is planning a trip across the state to meet with supporters and get her message out to voters. With a February primary around the corner, Cheryle knows that she has to work now to build the resources and support she'll need to win.

Below is an on-the-road update from Kate Coyne-McCoy, the EMILY'S List Political Opportunity Program (POP) director for the East Coast. Through POP, EMILY's List helps pro-choice Democratic women running for state and local level offices. Kate Coyne-McCoy at a POP training in Georgia

Blazing the trail. Breaking new ground. Making history. That's exactly how our women in Congress have been described and, even though we know it's true, it sure is great when others take notice of their incredible work.

I'm speechless. I honestly don't know what to say about reports that a Republican challenger to EMILY's List alum Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz actually shot at a picture meant to represent the congresswoman when he and his pals from the local Republican club got together at a shooting range. I'd like to say this is an "Are you kidding me moment?!" but that doesn't even begin to cut it.

The Democratic women of the Senate aren't the only ones stressing the importance of health care reform for women. On the House side, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading the way, holding a press conference earlier this week with the Democratic Women's Working Group earlier this week.

At EMILY's List, we believe that electing women to office is critical for creating a more representative, progressive democracy. And with women at the table, our issues are a top priority. This week, that couldn't have been clearer. EMILY's List women of the Senate took center stage this week, speaking about the essential ways in which health care reform will benefit the country's women. From the House floor to Larry King Live, these women senators spoke out for women across America, describing the obstacles to care many women face.

The rose is a rose, and was always a rose... I never knew the GOP could be so downright poetic. RNC Chair Michael Steele had one heck of a quote today, letting voters know that Republicans have turned over a new leaf, sprouted new roots, blossomed all over again. (I really could go on forever.) Speaking of two Republican gubernatorial candidates -- Virginia nominee Bob McDonnell and New Jersey nominee Chris Christie, Steele had the following to say: "We have unfolded, if you will, the flower of new leadership in the Republican Party."

Speaker Pelosi had the perfect reaction today when a reporter asked her what she thought about a National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman suggesting that General McCrystal needs to "put her in her place" over her comments about the war in Afghanistan:

There was a great cartoon in the Pensacola News Journal recently, showing exactly why Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink is cut out to serve as the state's top executive. And even if you're not on top of your Florida state politics, this speaks volumes. Alex has been exactly the type of leader the state needs (particularly on modernizing the state's pension fund, in this case). Doesn't look like we can say the same for her opponent or the state's current GOP governor...

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand really is on a roll. Right after our last post about everything she's been working on, we caught this clip of her on the Rachel Maddow Show, talking about her work to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Gillibrand said that she expects a congressional hearing on the policy this fall, a huge step towards progress. Gillibrand said that, during the 16 years the policy has been in place, the military "has lost over 13,000 service members."
