John Boehner was re-elected Speaker of the House this week and the question on everyone’s mind: Why? The 112th Congress is going down in history as the least productive Congress on record, and it receives this distinction with the generous help of none other than the House Republican leadership.
Yesterday, the 113th Congress was sworn into office, including 16 new EMILY’s List women to the House and 9 EMILY’s List women to the Senate. With a record number of women entering both chambers and the incoming freshman class being the most diverse in history, there was a lot to celebrate. So we did!
Yesterday the 113th Congress was sworn into office, including 16 new EMILY’s List women to the House and 9 EMILY’s List women to the Senate – and of course, Maggie Hassan, the only female Democratic governor in the entire country. What a way to kick off the new year: a new batch of pro-choice Democratic women in Congress who will continue fighting for women and families and holding Republicans accountable. We’re so proud of the accomplishments of these women, the leadership they’ll bring to office and all the progress they’ll achieve.
This is from an email Senator Jeanne Shaheen sent to the EMILY's List community 11/29/12
Every day, more than 400,000 servicewomen risk their lives in defense of our country and our ideals. For that, they should be honored.
